As we’ve mentioned elsewhere, there’s a whole street full of shitty overpriced bars in Yangshuo called West Street, and every single establishment here should be avoided like the plague if you value your hearing and your children’s inheritance. Luckily there’s one place just off West Street that’s worth the craic: Bad Panda Rooftop Bar.
Bad Panda is probably the best value bar in Yangshuo, as long as you don’t mind drinking Tsingtao. A large bottle of China’s favourite piss (but not Yangshuo’s; most places don’t even stock it) will set you back 20 RMB, and it is that rarest of things in China: ice cold.
They also offer a bunch of cocktails for 40-50 RMB, and a shot challenge wherein successful participants get a Bad Panda T-shirt.
Bad Panda is cosy inside and has a ceiling covered in undercrackers (you can exchange yours for a drink), as well as a rooftop bar for sipping your drinks and looking out over the karst landscape. They also have foosball and beer-pong tables.
Bad Panda sports a very foreigner-friendly playlist, with plenty of indie tunes and recent hits. Don’t request your own songs to be put on, though – they ain’t too fond of that.
Bad Panda is, as noted, just off West Street. A sign is visible from the main street; just follow it down the alleyway and it’s immediately to your left.
Bad Panda is run by a Chinese lady with impeccable English and, occasionally, her German boyfriend. Since the bar thrives on backpacker business, the staff are very friendly and accommodating to tourists.
